About the project

What is EDUVENTS?

A revenue-focused educational events marketplace platform designed to connect event organisers with educators across the UK and international markets. The platform enables paid event submissions, administrative moderation, and public discovery of professional development opportunities including conferences, CPD training, webinars, and educational exhibitions. Built as a scalable MVP, the solution combines secure payments, manual curation, and a streamlined browsing experience while maintaining a clean, professional interface suitable for the education sector.

Conclusion

The platform transforms a manual, fragmented listing process into a structured, monetised, and scalable digital solution. By combining payment-gated submissions, administrative moderation, and a clean public discovery experience, the platform delivers immediate business value while laying the groundwork for future growth.

The problem

What was slowing them down.

  1. 01

    No centralised, monetised platform

Educational event organisers lacked a centralised, monetised platform to list and promote their events to targeted educator audiences. Existing solutions were fragmented, manual, or lacked proper moderation and monetisation controls.

  2. 02

    Manual Listing Management

Event submissions were handled through emails or forms without structured validation, moderation workflows, or consistent presentation.

  3. 03

    No Revenue Automation

There was no integrated payment system to monetise event listings or standardise pricing.

  4. 04

    Discoverability Issues

Educators had difficulty finding relevant events due to poor filtering, lack of categorisation, and inconsistent data quality.

  5. 05

    Administrative Overhead

Approving, publishing, and featuring events required manual coordination without a central dashboard.

  6. 06

    Scalability Constraints

The absence of a structured database and approval system limited future growth and feature expansion.

The solution

What we built.

Paid Event Submission System

A moderated, payment-enabled educational events marketplace built around a clear separation of public users and administrators.

  • Public, no-login event submission form
  • Fixed £99 Stripe Checkout payment per listing
  • Mandatory payment before submission is recorded
  • Automatic “pending review” status after payment
  • Confirmation and notification emails for organisers and admins

Administrative Management System

  • Secure admin-only authentication
  • Centralised dashboard for managing event lifecycle
  • One-click approve or reject actions with automated email notifications
  • Manual event creation for platform seeding (payment bypass)
  • Featured event toggle for homepage promotion

Public Marketplace Experience

  • Homepage with featured events carousel above the fold
  • Latest events grid displaying approved listings
  • Dedicated “Find Events” page with advanced filtering
  • Detailed event pages with clear metadata and external booking links
  • Fully responsive design optimised for mobile and desktop

Professional, Education-Focused Interface

  • Clean layout using blue gradients with green CTA accents
  • British English spelling and terminology throughout
  • Clear information hierarchy and accessible typography
  • Optimised image handling and fast page loads

Key challenges

The hard parts, and how we solved them.

  • Payment-gated submissions: ensuring events are only submitted after successful payment.

Integrated Stripe Checkout with mandatory payment completion before data persistence, backed by webhook confirmation handling.

  • Moderation without user accounts: managing submissions without organiser logins.

Admin-only RBAC system with status-based workflows and email notifications, eliminating the need for public user accounts in the MVP.

  • Flexible event categorisation: supporting multiple education sectors and subjects without complexity.

Multi-select tagging using structured arrays for event phase and subject areas, enabling powerful filtering while keeping UX simple.

  • Performance and scalability: fast event discovery with growing listings.

Optimised database queries, indexed fields, server-side rendering, and image optimisation via AWS S3.
